Part 4 of the October 2026 Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Forbidden & Limited List changes four cards and is effective from October 19, 2026. Magicians’ Souls and Spell Canceller are now Forbidden, while Griffoh and Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max are Limited to one copy. For Egyptian duelists preparing for locals or testing a new list, the important job is not merely removing illegal copies—it is replacing the function each card performed.
This guide focuses on Part 4 of the five-part YCS Houston reveal. If you missed the earlier announcements, read our Part 1 guide and Parts 2 and 3 guide. Before entering any sanctioned event, compare your final list with Konami’s official Forbidden & Limited List.
October 2026 Banlist Part 4: All Four Changes
| Card | Previous status | New status | Immediate action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Griffoh | Unlimited | Limited | Play no more than one copy across Main, Extra, and Side Decks. |
| Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max | Unlimited | Limited | Keep one copy and review every Rank 10 line that expected a second copy. |
| Magicians’ Souls | Unlimited | Forbidden | Remove every copy and rebuild draw, setup, and Level 1 Spellcaster packages. |
| Spell Canceller | Unlimited | Forbidden | Remove it from all zones and replace the anti-Spell role with legal interaction. |
The Part 4 announcement was published during the YCS Houston weekend and reported in the Part 4 update. A Limited card may appear only once in total across your Main, Extra, and Side Decks; a Forbidden card cannot appear in any of them.
Magicians’ Souls Forbidden: Rebuild the Engine, Not Just Three Slots
Magicians’ Souls is the most structurally important change in Part 4. Decks did not use it only as a small Spellcaster body. Depending on the strategy, it could send a high-Level Spellcaster, place a useful monster in the Graveyard, convert spare Spells or Traps into draws, and provide material for Link, Xyz, or Synchro lines.
That means a direct one-for-one replacement is unlikely to copy every role. Start by identifying why your deck played Magicians’ Souls:
- Starter or bridge: Did it begin a line, or only connect two parts of the combo?
- Graveyard setup: Which card needed to be sent, and is there another legal way to access it?
- Draw conversion: Were you sending Continuous Spells, Field Spells, or Traps that had already delivered value?
- Body on the field: Did your Extra Deck route depend on a Level 1 DARK Spellcaster?
- Engine density: Are Illusion of Chaos or other supporting cards still worth their slots without Souls?
Do not automatically keep the rest of a Souls package. Test the entire package as a unit. If the supporting cards become poor draws without Magicians’ Souls, removing the whole engine can create more useful space than forcing a weaker substitute.
Spell Canceller Forbidden: Find Interaction, Not Another Lock
Spell Canceller prevented both players from activating Spell Cards while it remained face-up. Decks that could summon and protect it used it as a powerful anti-Spell lock, especially when expecting board breakers or Spell-heavy opponents. Its ban removes that continuous effect from legal play.
The healthiest replacement process is matchup-based. Ask which problem Spell Canceller solved: stopping board breakers, slowing a Spell-focused engine, or protecting a developed board. Then choose legal interaction that fits your deck’s summon restrictions and turn structure. A searchable archetype card, a well-timed negate, or a Side Deck option may be stronger than an unrelated floodgate.
Also check whether you played cards only to summon Spell Canceller. Tribute support, Machine access, or combo branches dedicated to it may no longer justify their places.
Gustav Max Limited: One Copy Is Usually Enough—Until It Isn’t
Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max is a Rank 10 Xyz Monster known for detaching a material to inflict 2,000 effect damage. Limiting it to one does not remove the familiar Rank 10 finisher, but it changes lists that relied on resolving or presenting Gustav Max more than once in a Duel.
For Train, Machine, and other Level 10 strategies, review these points:
- Can the deck still finish through interruption when the single Gustav Max is unavailable?
- Does the Extra Deck need a different Rank 10 or Rank 11 option for the follow-up turn?
- Were you using a second copy because of long games, Extra Deck removal, or a specific combo?
- Does your line continue into Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Juggernaut Liebe, and is that line still efficient?
Players who already used one copy may not need to change the Main Deck, but they should still test what happens if the single copy is removed or negated.
Griffoh Limited: Check Your Opening Ratios
Griffoh moving from three copies to one is primarily a consistency change. If your list used multiple copies, reduce it to one before your next event and calculate what you lost: a starter, extender, searchable name, discard, or follow-up card.
A replacement should preserve the deck’s opening-hand quality rather than simply sharing a type or attribute. Run at least twenty test hands with the updated ratio. Record how often you open a playable engine, how often the single Griffoh is required, and which replacement cards are dead going first or second.
Fast Deck Repair Plan for Egyptian Players
- Save the old list. Keep screenshots or an exported version before changing anything.
- Remove illegal cards from every zone. Check Main, Extra, and Side Decks—not only the Main Deck.
- Combine all October changes. Apply Parts 1 through 4 together and check the final official list.
- Label each empty slot by function. Starter, extender, interaction, board breaker, engine piece, or Extra Deck endpoint.
- Repair engines before tech choices. A deck that cannot execute its plan does not benefit from fashionable Side Deck cards.
- Test opening hands and complete games. Use at least twenty hands, then play pre-side and post-side matches.
- Confirm legality on event day. Do a final card-by-card check before travelling to a tournament.
Budget-Smart Testing Before You Buy
Banlist changes can create pressure to buy replacements immediately, but testing first is usually cheaper. Build separate pre-banlist and post-banlist versions in the Stiva Deck Builder, then compare starter counts, engine size, Extra Deck routes, and Side Deck coverage.
For private testing, you can order Stiva Custom Cards to try new ratios before committing to expensive upgrades. Custom cards are for casual and private testing only; they are not legal substitutes at official sanctioned events.
